The Dreamland of JustinFebruary 02 A New Guy With No Choice(1)Recently some rare severe weather whipped across San Francisco, causing low temperature and the usually-clear blue sky covered with endless dark cloud. To make matters worse, unexpectedly occasional heavy rains appeared. Although I never take seriously the good reputation of the coastal city's spring-like weather throughout the four seasons, I do enjoy its sunshine days of no rain. After all, who likes raining? It seems that the bad weather that suddenly appeared these two weeks indicated a prelude of an unforeseen series of catastrophes from the job I got almost one month ago working as a cashier in RedWood city. From the very beginning I did not regard earning money as the main concern for getting this job at all, what I actually wanted is nothing but to gain working experience under a working environment. To strike, to seek, not to yield. Well, as a new guy there, I did accept any criticism from my trainers whenever I did thing wrong and not follow the right direction they demanded. The sad truth is that it is too easy to blame the freshman when something does go wrong despite the fact that even he did his best to meet their steep requirement. On the first training day, a girl with a black glass came over to me and cheerfully announced that she would be my trainer in the next few weeks. Of course, I listened to her instruction with great care and I was quick to learn. Not for very long, I memorized almost every important points she taught me, like which buttons on the machine correspond to the designated orders, what price of some particular orders are and so forth. The only thing left seemed only to practice. “Ok, it was time to do practice.” I said to the trainer confidently. As I expected, permission was granted and the girl accompanied me to the front desk. She added that she would stay beside me to watch if I did things right so as to make necessary corrections. Everyone has a humble beginning. Working, in the younger sort, can be viewed as a part of education. But I still could not dive myself into working with the same ethusiasm as in study, let alone balance them within myself.
……..to be continued September 29 The Crisis of PS3These days the giant company in electronic products, Sony, which once launched the PS3 one year ago may be in a dilemma .According to the announcement made by Microsoft authority from levelup.cn , the glorious game Halo 3 enjoyed 1.5 million circulation overnight and broke a new record in TV game sold in the United States, surpassing its predecessor Halo 2, which is released in 2004. As a fancier of PS family, with the possession of a PS2, personally ,I am in favor of Sony's triumph over Microsoft in gaming industry. But the current situation is quite obvious to show that Sony is not standing on a luminous peak as it did in the past when the PS2 mainly occupied the game market. This semester I am taking economic class, and having got some basic knowledge of how the market is regulated and operated, I want to make a superficial analysis on the ongoing gaming market, after all, I was really a fan of game once upon a time.Ha.... In retrospect, Sony obtained an unprecedented success in game market, with 70 percent market share of PS2. At that time , as far as I know, almost all the famous companies ,like Capcom, Square Enix, and Konami , unanimously chose PS2 as the platform for the games in their main list, like Devil May Cry, Biohazard, Final Fantasy and so on. However, as we often say, success in one round doesn't guarantee a success in the next, since gaming is a cyclical business.Sony is facing many challenges. For one thing,Microsoft took the step in advance to launch the Xbox360, far ahead the PS3. And Microsoft draw the experience from the failure of the Xbox, making it start attaching great importance to the Japanese market.(But no matter how great its effort was, Japanese seemed to immune the foreign products in their own land partly because of the confidence toward their domestic products.) And Xbox360 wonderfully succeed in the north America,at least better than Xbox. For another,Sony is losing money on each PS3 sold. As we know, PS3 is a highly-advanced machine combined with not only the function to play game but also its blue-ray drive to watch HD TV, which costs 500 dollars( I am not sure). We know the basic idea that consoles' market share is the main determinant for success in game market for console-making companies. If the price is set too high for customers to afford, the market share will undoubtedly small. So, in order to attract buyers,Sony has to mend its hole with the money in its own pocket. In fact, it is the same as Xbox360, but the difference is Microsoft, owned by the wealthiest person in the world,Bill Gates, has countless money to throw......... Can Sony compare with Microsoft in term of the amount of money? Last but not the least, less attractive games is another weakness. At this early stage, it is really not so many great games available, since the game-making companies are putting their energy into exploring the new console. As for me, now there is no games that can catch my attention other than the Devil May Cry 4 to be released within this year.In contrast, PS3's another rival ,Wii, successfully took hold of my attention with its exclusive games, like Mario , Saerda and so on. Actually,I played Wii during a visit to my friend's house.Although at first it is not comfortable to hold the controller vertically, it is easy to get used to. I experienced Biohazard 4 on Wii, oh,... the way to control Leon is kinda different from that on PS2,giving me more excitement. With the innovation in controller and the lowest price among the three main consoles, wii is sure to take back a great number of the customers who once worshiped PS2 and scarped gamecube. Judging the current situation, I think PS3 will not be able to keep the share as PS2 did in the past, but the question is how much the loss will be. Now, I don't have intention of buying any new consoles, since my enthusiasm to play game has been faded gradually, and no money..... The only one I want to play is Super Robot War OGs gaiden, after I clear it, my PS2 can be on the ground.....ha...ha... September 16 The Great Enemy In the midnight, everything seems to be clear enough to let me begin pondering on myself. I very enjoy the serenity of night because its soundless and dark scene makes my heart calm.Tonight, I think of my own external perplexity after chatting with my friend over the phone on the subject of how to be modest. The great confusion in me is that if we start to compare ourselves with others over whatever topics there is always a depressed fact to accept that we always don't want to admit or concede he or she is better than us even it is really the case. For example, commonly, in the topic of performance in college, one of the two student may get dismayed when he or she learn that in a test the other one gets a higher score. And the dismay often turn into jealousy. Is that a good force to drag you out from the laziness to study? |
